What is logical reasoning testing?

Logical reasoning tests are used to assess your problem solving skills through, shapes, number sequences and patterns. Like other psychometric tests, you will be required to complete a number of questions within the time given.

Questions and Answers example

Question 1.

Question 1 will identify how you can solve patterns and rules through shapes.
This is an example of the type of question you can expect in a logical reasoning test. This question requires you to find the next pattern in this sequence, and select the correct answer. Out of the options shown to you, it may first appear that the answers are all very similar. Identify patterns and similarities within the shapes shown to you, if you struggle to find the correct answer, use a process of elimination to eradicate any possible solutions.

The correct answer for this question is D, this is because the white ball moves across on the same level, and a new branch is created on the right, where it always starts first.

Question 2.

Another type of question you may expect in a logical reasoning test may be to test your numerical skills to find patterns and solutions.

In this sequence, they want you to identify the missing number. As the missing number is in the middle of the sequence, we can work both forwards and backwards to identify the pattern.
Firstly, take a quick look at the potential answers given to you. In this question, we know the answer will be anywhere between 41-46. To approach this question first find the pattern within the first 3 numbers. With our basic mathematic skills of subtraction, there is a pattern of subtraction ascending.
This means the first 3 numbers are linked as they are reducing by -1, then -2. The pattern between the 3 numbers after the missing variable, is also descending by the rate of -5 and -6. This would mean the missing number would have to follow the pattern and be -3 from 47, and +4 from 40.

Tips to pass

The most important way to prepare for this test is to practise a lot! Practise multiple different sequences in a range of shapes, numbers and patterns that can also provide you with the answers. You can practise virtually limitlessly with our Gold Package.
Remember, as you are timed, you need to practise these types of tests within a set limit. The quicker you can do these tests, the better. And finally, If possible, work backwards as well as forwards to find the missing solution in the sequence.
