What is situational judgement testing?

The situational judgement test is designed to assess your ability in teamwork, empathy, intuition, problem-solving and more. Most major graduate employers use this test to help them find a candidate that they know can handle the environment and any potential problems that arise. The test will also assess how you react to different scenarios and situations that you are most likely to face within the company you are applying for. These scenarios can be around interactions, workload and trust.

Our top tips to passing first time

Consistency

In a situational judgement test, consistency is absolutely key. But what do we mean by being consistent?

For example, the test may ask how you value work prioritise based on seniority level of your colleagues. If you answer the work given to you by a senior member is of high importance, but low importance by an intern, then you showing you treat other members of the team differently.

While there are no wrong answers in a situational Judgement test, if you are consistent with your answers regarding loyalty, trust and teamwork regardless of the seniority level then the algorithm will mark you higher.

Skills

Depending on the role you are applying for, the algorithm is to help select those with skillsets who will succeed in the role.

Researching further into the role and industry is crucial to understand the 'type of person' they are looking to hiring regarding their skills and attributes. When taking your test, remember what a person in the position you are applying for would answer, rather than your own opinions. This is also true in the level of which you are applying for, if you answer questions demonstrating you wish to lead the team and delegate your own roles when applying for a junior position, then the algorithm is likely to not favour your answers.

Research

'Failure to prepare is preparing to fail"

Researching into the company is key to knowing what they are looking for in a candidate. Looking into current employees, the companies history and they test providers they use will change how you answer the questions. You can create a profile of the candidate they are looking for and the skills needed for the job.
